October

So I am tired of being the fat kid! When it comes to being a disciplined person I am with everything in life except for food. And by food I mean SUGAR! I love all things sugar cake, cookies, pie, candy you name it I love it. That is a problem, a huge problem! I am training for a half marathon and some of why I think it is not going well is because of the extra amount of weight I am carrying around so that i can eat sugar. At this moment in time I am carrying 25 count them 25 extra pounds then from when I graduated high school 7 years ago! That adds up to roughly 3.5lbs a year gross! So the goal for this month is to loose 5-7lbs this month, eat healthier, cross train on nonrunning days, and to run on running days even if it is only a mile. October is a new month and I have to apply the self discipline I have in my every day life into my eating habits and all will be ok!

GOALS FOR OCTOBER:

1) Loose 5-7lbs
2) Eat healthier more veggies!
3) Cross train on non running days
4) Run on all running days

I took this goal setting idea from Mamm's Got A Big Belly http://mamasgottabigbelly.blogspot.com/ Hop on over and read her blog I really enjoy it!

This past weekend

My road map for the weekend. This thing means I know where every light in the space is and how it should look (I kind of hold the power) The little trains mean I know where every person in the space is at all times.

These are just a few shots from the tech table during focus...aka me yelling directions and the designer moving light beams (those are the technical terms)

So that's it what I did this weekend from sun up till well past sun down. I loved it we had a good time once we got started and had a chance to work with some really great people! The show goes into tech Friday so all of this hard work will pay off. More photos to come!

This weeks workouts!

This weeks workouts have been kind of slow, a lot of walking and 2 days of running. Recovery from this injury is slowing down training just a little bit but I seem to be headed back to a good track.
Monday was a good walk on the way to school. The sun is nice coming up in Athens on clear days.

Tuesday was yet again another walk to school kind of day.
Wednesday back to running! I decided to do a speed mile for my first chance back in a week. I made this decision based on the fact that I had to get my blood pumping good and hard to get the blood flowing again in my legs. It felt good to be back up running with the stars.
Thursday was a slow walk to school, my legs where feeling a little tired from the day before run.
Today was a good day! I ran out of time because I overslept a little bit so the 3 mile goal was a little short with only 2.6 but still it felt great to push it to add mileage under my belt since the injury.

Posting this today because this weekend is going to be super busy for me. I will be in work from about 9:00am till about midnight so that means a few "rest" days from the running world. I'll post some photos from this weekend when I get a chance!

For those of you who don't know me

A peek into my non running life. By trade I am a lighting designer and scenic artist. This weekend I spent wearing my scenic artist hat while the team of talented painters painted the floor for the first show in the OU season. Here is a sneak peak of the floor...more photos to come as the show gets on it's feet in the space.
Also for this show I am wearing the hat of assistant lighting designer (note taker/smoothing over). Meaning that in the next few weeks posts may become few and far between because of running in the morning and working till the wee hours of the night oh with class in the middle...the beauty of graduate school!

New Stuff!!!

It was a good birthday for me as a runner!! I received three really great gifts from my family and other half.
First I received these gems:
I got them early which means I have been running in them for the past 2 weeks when I have been able to run! They are comfortable and fit great I can't thank Kyle enough for them! Also they are LIME GREEN and PINK how AWESOME is that!!!!!

Second I received this box full of goodies:
A new pair of champion shorts, a new champion t-shirt, asic socks, and a belikin arm band to hold my i phone so I don't have to hold it in my hand while I run. My grandparents bought all of this awesomeness even if they don't know it, and I couldn't be more happy and thankful!

Third I received this great envelope on the mail:
My sister sent it to me. She thought it would be really helpful for me as I start getting into my longer runs and I can't agree with her more! The one thing I missed on my 4 mile run was a drink of water or mouth rinse at mile 3. She read my mind and had a brilliant thought and I'm super excited!

I am very thankful for all of the great things I received this year for my birthday and how supportive everyone is being with this new life goal and life style I have decided to live. I am very grateful to have such and wonderful family and other half. Wednesday I will hit the road again in all my new gear with my head held high for a short 2 mile run and then a 4 mile run on Friday and I can't wait!

Well you know

Well I am back on the disabled list with my knees. I'm beginning to wonder if it might be the new shoes or the amount of weight my body is carrying. Who knows why it is happening right now, but it is inconvenient timing. I really really really want to run this half marathon in January and this injury feels like I am getting further and further away from it. I hope this injury will only be a week and I will be back out on the road running. Please tell me about your running I am living through those of you who are out there on the road!

All right!

All right! This morning I hit the road again today and it felt great!
It by no means is my fastest time or farthest distance, however just to be up and out in the chill of morning air working on bettering my person was enough for me coming off this injury. Also I found that today following my run I have been eating better and treating my body like the athletic machine I am asking it to be.
In the next year I would like to run 3 half marathons, gaining 3 Disney medals and 1 Athens half medal. This means that I have to face my struggles with food (more to come on that later) and getting up early before having to be a full time student at 9:00am. I can and will do both of these things and if reading about my struggles and solutions helps another person then it is all good.

The pain of injury

Today is my first running day without being able to run and I am going crazy!!!!! I miss being able to push my body to a limit and further, and with this injury I am couch ridden with an icepack. I am hoping that Wednesday I will be able to start at a low mileage to get started again. Being able to run for me is like releasing all of the energy, anger, and joy I have been holding onto all week. Also running is my way of being alone for an hour or so to clear my mind and center myself. So Wednesday I am going to take it easy 2 miles, then Friday 3 miles and we will be right on track!

Injury and Rest

So on to a less happy note...on Friday's run I injured my left knee making it almost impossible to walk. For the last 2 days I have been icing, heat, Motrin, and rest, however tomorrow is suppose to be a 4 mile run day. I will be resting tomorrow which I think might be really difficult for me. I have always been the kind of person who pushes one self to go as far as humanly possible and then some. This time I will have to take it back a notch to be able to train for the half marathon and finish. I will survive the day of rest, but on Wednesday I will be back on the trail working toward that 13.1 mile goal.

Bragging!

For this post I will be bragging about my other half. This morning he ran the Rams Inaugural 7k Season Kickoff! He ran it in 44:09 at a pace of 10:06! I am so proud of what he accomplished this morning. He set a goal, went for it, and achieved it how awesome is that! I wish I could have been there for it, but I am happy that this is something we can do together apart.

Here goes a new adventure!

I am writing this blog for people like me who are starting out as a runner and struggling to find their footing. I turned 26 yesterday and less than a month ago I decided I wanted to run the Disney World Half Marathon. Let me tell you when I made that decision I was only capable of running 2.00miles outside and 3.00 miles on a treadmill. So what you will find when you read this blog is how I plan and am getting to the 13.1 mile mark by January 12. I hope you will stick with me as I figure out this blogging thing, running thing, and balancing the world of life and running.
